After More Than a Year of Waiting, IKEA Has Launched Its Purifying Curtains

Honestly, with all this extra time indoors, I know I'm not the only one side-eyeing my home's air quality. Dust bunnies and coffee rings? Easy fixes. But it's the invisible stuff—like hazardous air pollutants—that's the real issue. Thankfully, IKEA just dropped something that clears the air, literally.

The Swedish retailer first teased the air-purifying Gunrid curtain ($30) back in February 2019, and you guys—it's finally available to shop online. So how does it work? Think photosynthesis, but for your curtains. The fabric is coated with a photocatalyst mineral that actually breaks down pollutants when daylight hits the surface, keeping harmful emissions (like nitrogen oxides from gas cooking) from spreading through your space. And the cherry on top? The textile is made from recycled PET bottles. Chef's kiss.

"Besides enabling people to breathe better at home, we hope that Gunrid will increase people's awareness of indoor air pollution, inspiring behavioral changes that contribute to a world of clean air," says Lena Pripp-Kovac, head of sustainability at Inter IKEA Group. Look, this treatment won't solve everything overnight, but it absolutely elevates the whole concept of a decor refresh—and that's giving main character energy.
